Who
Will Meet Me At The Airport?
You
will be met at the airport in Central America by one of our Country
Manager. After passing through customs, you should look for the
representative, who will have a sign with your name on it. Simply
approach the representative and introduce yourself. He or she has
pre-arranged your transfer, and will escort you to a waiting vehicle
for the trip to your hotel.
Are
Visas required for entry?
All Visas are obtained upon arrival, from
the local immigration authorities at the airport.
What
Type Of Clothing Will I Need?
Usually, informal, casual dress is
sufficient. During the summer months light-weight clothing is
recommended. We also recommend that you bring a light jacket,
particularly for the evenings. The countries receive significant
amounts of rain in the summer, so a raincoat is handy.
Is
The Water Safe To Drink?
Bottled water is readily available and recommended. Do not drink
water from pools or slow-moving streams.
What
About Electrical Outlets?
Power is supplied on a 220/240-volt, 50-cycle in most parts of
Central America.
What
About Travel Insurance?
The program provides accident and sickness and medical insurance for
the duration of the trip. Coverage begins when the volunteer leaves
his/her home and ends when she/he returns from the assignment.
What
Kind Of Housing Is Provided?
This varies from country to country, but volunteers are typically
housed in moderate quality hotels or guesthouses. Lodging information
is provided in the Scope of Work for each assignment.
What
Medical Precautions Should I Take Before Departing for Central
America?
All the information regarding medical precautions is covered in the
country briefing packet. You can also contact your physician or the
Center for Disease Control for additional information.
Is
It Possible To Bring My Spouse Or Another Family Member?
Sometimes, it is preferable for your spouse to join you at the end of
the assignment. Talk with the Program Coordinator about bringing
along your spouse. Please note however, that we do not have funding
to pay expenses for a spouse or another family member. If you would
like to schedule a post-assignment vacation, we encourage family and
friends to meet you after you have completed your obligations.
What Kinds Of Reports Are Required?
All volunteers are required to submit a Trip Report, describing the
activities, the training experience and the results of the assistance
provided to the host. An expense report is also required with
documentation/receipts to account for allowable expenses.
