Professional Activities

Dr. Chen’s current research focuses on understanding the source of variations in healthcare cost and quality, and how innovations such as Information Technology (IT) can impact healthcare management. She is also interested in investigating both the intended and unintended consequences of health policy. In order to quantify these effects, she applies advanced statistical and econometrical methods to analyze large-scale datasets. Her research is published in peer-refereed journals such as Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Journal of Regulatory Economics, Medical Care Research and Review, and Health Economics, and has been presented at international/national conferences and quoted by the Miami Herald and McKnight’s Long-Term Care News.  

 

In addition to her academic experiences, Dr. Chen worked as an economic consultant at Charles River Associates and has gained valuable consulting experiences working with government agencies and healthcare organizations. She combines her academic knowledge and practical experiences to develop both face-to-face and online MBA courses and all her online courses successfully achieved Quality Matters credentials. She received the best professor and best course awards from FIU's Healthcare MBA program and was invited to address practitioners about the challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. healthcare sector.

 

Dr. Chen holds a B.A. in Economics from Renmin University of China, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago and a PhD in Managerial Economics & Strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
