The program focuses on sustainability strategies and tools in all core MBA courses. Curriculum will be infused with IDB experiences, case studies, data, and live examples from the region. As a result, some content may be delivered in Spanish, and in collaboration with the most prominent private Latin American universities (e.g., Tec de Monterrey, Uniandes, among others).

Finally, the program will involve experiential learning through capstones with private, public and non-profit partners in the region, designed to advance student job placement.

Core Classes

Presentation of the nature, techniques and uses of accounting from the perspective of people who manage businesses and investments in businesses. Covers both financial and management accounting. It also covers non-profit accounting practices (e.g., 501c3), CSR report audits, natural service valuations, and Carbon Credit Certifications.

Review of the relevant quantitative techniques required for business analysis and decision making including: Decision Models, Statistics, Forecasting, and Mathematical Programming.  This is an Excel based course.  It will be taught using the Blackboard or Canvas LMS.  Though the quantitative skills taught in the class are generic, case themes will focus on an Introduction to Sustainability Metrics and Business Analytics.  Prerequisites:  College Algebra, computer literacy, and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Students must have the latest version of Microsoft Excel for the class.

Provision of tools for managerial decision-making in a variety of competitive environments including demand analysis, short- and long-run costs of production, demand for factors, market structure and competitive strategy in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as impact evaluation of corporate sustainability initiatives and strategies.

In-depth examination of asset, liability and capital structure management, with emphasis on valuation capital budgeting techniques; risk evaluation; working capital management; and methods of short-term, intermediate and long-term financing. Socially Responsible Investing (SRI), Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) methods, IndexAmericas and using Bloomberg terminals to assess financial impact of Environment-Social-Government (ESG) performance.

Course emphasis is on application and integration of concepts and tools, through participation in the marketing management of a firm in competition with other firms. The course's focal point is a computerized marketing management simulation with corporate sustainability presentations for consulting project.

Comprehensive treatment of analysis of financial statements as aid for decision making; looks at current state of financial reporting practices and impact of published statements on economic systems. Sustainability reporting guidelines (integrated reporting) and Public Annual Corporate Reporting.

Understanding the key elements of the evolution of international economic structures, including global trade, migration and flow of capital. Provides economic, environmental and social tools (including proactive stakeholder engagement and materiality analysis) that corporate citizenship professionals can use to mitigate the consequences of this evolution in an organization.

We reap what we sow. Leadership should be a skill that you continually work on and develop throughout your life. This leadership course gives you the maximum opportunity to acquire the knowledge that you will need to better lead organizations--small to medium sized firms, or large enterprises--towards harnessing their wealth creating capabilities and networks. This course also gives you the tools and insight to deliver sustainable value for various stakeholder groups in impactful and meaningful ways. More specifically, through coursework, hands-on experience, and the case method, students will gain measureable leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities at three core levels: (1) Individual Level, (2) Team Level, and (3) Global Level to design, implement, and assess effective corporate sustainability strategies.

Examines current legal, regulatory, ethical, and political issues within the context of public law. Topics include employment, antitrust, administrative, cyber law, and contracts and tort, good governance, accountability, ethics and compliance.

Analysis and application of theory and problem solving for marketing management in the global environment. Emphasis will be on the role of marketing in the organization; planning the marketing effort; management of the marketing organization; control of marketing operations; evaluation of the marketing contribution; responsible/sustainable consumer behavior; ethical advertising; macro-marketing; and consumer protection agencies and product sustainability.

This course covers analysis, design, and operations of organizational systems. Focus on life cycle analysis, footprint reduction strategies, sustainable operations and supply chains, inclusive business strategies, sustainable agriculture and sustainable cities. The material presented has application to any organization, including hospitals, as well as non-profit and public agencies. 

Individual, interpersonal, and small group behavior in complex organizations. Focus on behavior, its causes, and management interventions to improve organizational effectiveness. Research methods to study organizational behavior. Organizational mission for employee recruitment, retention and satisfaction, executive compensation, diversity initiatives, business continuity, disaster risk management (including corporate relief efforts), and corporate volunteering.

Introduction to information systems and their role in organizations from a user's viewpoint. Survey and application of the basic concepts necessary for understanding information systems. Sustainability systems design, data gathering, monitoring and reporting schemes, advanced corporate sustainability metrics and analytics (including machine learning and Text Data Mining).

The use of cases, guest lectures, and gaming to integrate the analysis and measurement tools, the functional areas and public policy issues. The objective is to develop skill in broad areas of rational decision-making in an administrative context of uncertainty, shared value creation and corporate risk mitigation strategies. Social Entrepreneurship, Green Startups and scalability. Should be taken in the last semester of master's program.
